Friends and Familia

What happened to fall? This week has been a jumble of warm weather, haircuts, fringe trims, scalp massages and tea tree shampoo.
We started on the floor this week, with shaky hands and pleading eyes towards the Learning Leaders, we attacked our first haircuts with excitement. We were ecstatic to show of our wonderful, unpolished skills to our awed family and hesitant friends.

Tuesday, we were delighted with having a half day at school, and I wandered over to the hair store and purchased hair colour for my sisters hair and to be a rebel, picked up my hot pink hair colour for my hair. I then wandered into the new Forever 21 and practically died as I took my first steps inside. That store is every girls dream. I picked up a vintageish black sweater for school, and I have worn it every day since. I adore that store with a passion.

For now, I shall leave you with a song that's been in my mind lately.

a rush of adrenaline

A mind of jumbled weeks, has it truly been five weeks since the start of classes? *sigh of amazement* Five weeks have come and gone, and we have now plunged straight into finals week. Flash cards, notes written on hands for reminders throughout the day, coffee and highlighters scatter the table.

This week has been a week of reminders. Tuesday, consisted of leaving my headlights on in my car, resulting in a dead battery on a cold, rainy day. Wednesday was Hippie day, which brought out the amazing reminder of how much I adore hippie, natural, earthy looks. Thursday brought the awaited day of my hair finally going all the way blonde after a much awaited two weeks. And today. Today brought a flurry of deep conditioning treatments, study sessions with flashcard flipping and the circle of influence.

Next week is a week that makes us all tremble in our boots just thinking about. Tuesday we drag our girl model in to perform a stimulated perm, color, highlight weave and shampoo and blow dry. This is not supposed to be a enjoyable experience for our poor models, this is for us to get it done as fast and efficiently as possible. I felt like a Venus Fly Trap, luring my model into doing this gigantic favour for me by offering a Starbucks and a lovely lunch. Joking of course, I'm trying to convince myself that she'll have a swell time. *hopeful look*

Wednesday we bring in our male models for their haircut. We all are frightful of this procedure. I've told my model to not just be afraid for his hair, but for his life. For you see, we do not just use clippers with guards, or course not! Much too simple! We enjoy living life on the edge by learning to use clippers without the guard, which presents a more difficult and challenging result. *slight hyperventilation*

Can you tell that the fear of finals has set in at this corridor?

Updo Wars

Yesterday we competed in Updo Wars as I like to call it. We divided into three groups, each group having only hairspray and bobbypins as their tools. Our goal: To create a stunning updo with only the presented tools. Twist: Only one person could work at a time, when the music stopped, we were presented with the challenge of switching team members. Result: Three amazingly unique updo's inspired by the challenge, the music, the atmosphere, the rhythm....

I Adored this challenge because it caused us to think outside the box. It made us strive for perfection and simplicity while striving for unique and sophisticated.

For now, Exhaustion calls...

An Introduction of Sorts

Stares at the blank screen with only thoughts swirling around in my head. A day full of perms and Chemical Relaxers,I wish I could relax, but alas my brain feels permed, curled in hundreds of different directions, bouncing around ideas of the chemical make up of hair to the difference between Dutch Braids and French Braids.

This blog is a cumulation of stories, thoughts, ideas from my year at cosmetology school and I will add to it as time allows throughout my year.
